Environmental sensitivity at a glance

As the ShipsGo team, we pursued comprehensive research about the importance of environmental sensitivity for beneficial cargo owners (BCOs) and freight forwarders in container transportation. The study was developed by collaborating with the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey with the participation of university professors and students. Eighty-one countries participated in this study. 70% of all participants are from 20 countries. USA and Turkey are the leading countries in participation.

Primarily, we aimed to clarify the container transportation buying behavior of the users in the decarbonization process. We detect insights for all participants of the container shipping industry. We wanted to share the process and the results to create awareness with this blog based on the research.

In this blog, we covered the subject of environmental sensitivity in container transportation and what it means for BCOs and freight forwarders?

What is Environmental Sensitivity?

Environmental sensitivity is a condition that perceives and processes environmental exposures. Basically, our ability to understand and then process all environmental components.

Does the Container Carrier is Being Environmentally Sensitive Matter?

According to the BCO’s (32.7% of the participants) and the freight forwarders (67.3% of the participants) from 81 countries, container carriers’ environmental sensitivity is a variable in selecting stage of most of the participants. 71.8% of all respondents, 72.9% of the forwarders, and 71.2% of BCOs agree that “Environmental Sensitivity of the Container Carrier” is the carrier selection variable. Besides, 14.3% of all respondents have no idea, whereas 13.9% do not agree.

Does the Carrier’s Environmental Sensitivity Worth Paying Extra Freights and Accepting Longer Transit Times?

Even If the carrier is environmentally sensitive, only 56,8 % of the users agree to pay more freight costs. 62,9 % of the users accept longer transit times.

Comparing the freight forwarders and BCO’s, freight forwarders are more aware of both actions. This attitude might relate to being in the same industry (logistics and transportation) and facing the logistics environmental facts more intensely than the BCOs.

What are the Other Important Factors in Container Carrier Selection?

According to the results, for both freight forwarders and BCOs, schedule reliability is the most crucial factor for carrier selection. The second critical factor is transit time, whereas transshipment is the third. The less essential factors are service frequency and freight cost for the participants. However, surprising results appeared when we combined these factors:

A higher freight cost is acceptable if there is a shorter transit time.

A higher freight cost is acceptable if there is schedule reliability.

A longer transit time is acceptable if there is a higher service frequency.

While we are ending this blog, we conclude that users tend to use an integrated approach in the container carrier selection process. Container carriers should be environmentally friendly. They need to be reliable for their schedule, and have shorter transit times. Together, these three characteristics can be called a “perfect set” in the container carrier selection process.

ShipsGo 2021 Review

As ShipsGo Digital Container Tracking Platform, we wanted to review what we accomplished in 2021 before saying hello to a new year. We see that we are growing day by day; we feel this growth as a team. Let’s examine some statistics!

Increasing Digitalization

One thing we noticed is that digitalization is increasing in maritime logistics. It is observed that the word “Container Tracking” in Google searches has risen by 50% compared to the previous years. We can say that digitalization, which accelerated during the pandemic process, also showed its effect on maritime logistics processes. The world is now a digital place, and ShipsGo offers this environment to you.

Everything becomes more apparent when we try to see our progress in numbers. For example, are you surprised when we say at least one shipment owner knows and uses ShipsGo in more than 65 countries of the world? We understand that this will increase day by day. ShipsGo will help anyone who says “I need a container tracking service” anywhere in the world in 2022.

Let’s Talk Numbers

We have reached 650+ customers from many countries. We also wondered how our customers in different languages found us and searched. When we dip into the subject, we found that our customers in France call us “suivi des conteneur” while our customers in Spain find us with the words “localizador de envios.”

When we are closing 2021, we see that we have reached more than 1.5 million tracking requests. Our operation team worked diligently to notify our customers. For instance, you know that the crisis in the Suez Canal, the unfortunate explosion in Beirut, caused disruptions in maritime logistics. Our operation team quickly organized and sent instant notifications to our customers. We like to make people happy with the information, and our operation team gets their motivation from the positive feedback.

You have searched ocean routes on ShipsGo

We said that It is enough to know the shipment’s port of loading and discharge to use our route search tool. Our users searched 65K+ routes averagely per month. Thank you for trusting us! According to your route searches on our tool, we listed the popular carriers and freight forwarders on that route then showed you the shipment’s average transit time and service reliability. You tracked your load shipment with Live Tracking. We hope this has been a good experience for you because it was and always will be for us!

About Customer Experience

Speaking of experience, we aimed to maximize our customer experience, so we have collected some feedback to measure user experience. Shipsgo.com received an average of 25K+ visitors per day in 2021. Some of these visitors asked questions to the live support which is active 24/7 on our website. Throughout the year, we provided instant support to approximately 8000 customers. We answered their questions and solved their problems. When we reviewed the customer satisfaction surveys, 90% of our customers reported being satisfied with the live support they got.

Good Bye 2021!

We have added a new product to our Container Tracking and Route Finder products. We created the TeuSmile network where all freight forwarder members can meet and start the partnerships they are searching for. Finally, we had a very good 2021, and we believe 2022 will be even better. We hope everyone has a great year full of joy and happiness!

Container Tracking For Cargo Owners

An exporter (cargo owners) usually operates as a producer or intermediary, which needs efficient management of both inbound and outbound logistics activities in an integrated approach. For example, the exporter engaged in production with import-based inputs should accurately forecast the transit times of inputs supplied from abroad to make production planning accordingly. With the forecasting, delays due to long transit times, especially in maritime transport, have to be known instantly. On the other hand, within the scope of finished product logistics, the cargo owner should also design a system that can deliver the container to the customer at the promised time. For many cargo owners, it is a significant problem for both early and late arrivals of the containers at the customers’ port.

Is the Current Status of Container Important for Cargo Owners?

Shipping Lines’ schedules are not reliable. According to SeaIntelligence, on-time arrivals ranged from 65% to 76% in the first nine months of 2018. On the other hand, almost no container carrier gives any delay/update in the container transport process. Carriers, also don’t have any service informing the customer’s container has been withdrawn from the container port. Exporters have to follow up the “tracking&tracing” pages of the carriers with different designs. As a result, apart from a significant amount of time spent in this business, significant material losses and problems in customer service are experienced.

Solutions

So what do you need to do? The answer is simple;

1) The carrier with the most reliable transit time declaration should be selected,

2) A system that can receive instant information from all delays/updates during container transportation should be used.

Now, Let’s explain how ShipsGo provides these solutions briefly;

1) The carrier with the most reliable transit time declaration should be selected

Knowing the past performances is the best way to decide on the carrier that makes a reliable transit time declaration. It is straightforward to do so. Take, for example, an exporter who imports from Germany and loads his container from the Port of Bremerhaven. This exporter should bring the container to Izmir Aliaga Port with a maximum transit time of 18 days so that production plans are not interrupted. In this sense, this exporter can make a query using the find route finder” search engine of the ShipsGo platform, and the transit times of all carriers are listed on the same page.

The time shown in the list next to the carrier name is the estimated time that the ShipsGo algorithm offers the user. If the “Last Updated” information is clicked, the transit times of the last shipments made by the carrier are listed up to 5 observations. The users can easily understand the carrier’s transit time deviations and reliability.

2) Use a system that will be informed instantly of all delays during container transportation

As an exporter, you can say, “my team is currently tracking containers by looking at carriers’ websites, and I don’t need such a service.” However, the feedback ShipsGo receives from exporter customers is that the time spent on container tracking is reduced by at least 50% in the business after using ShipsGo services.

As ShipsGo, the essential services we provide to exporters within the scope of “full traceability” are as follows;

Customized tracking service

Real-time shipment monitoring

On-time arrival, delay notification, release alert, gate-out confirmation

API integration with all IT systems

Evyap performs an essential part of Turkey’s bar soap and personal care product exports and transports its name to more than 100 countries. Evyap has been manufactured in 3 different countries compatible with European standards, and besides, it has built the world’s one of the biggest Oleochemistry plants in Malaysia. With more than 3,000 employees, Evyap is one of Turkey’s top 100 industrial corporations and makes “contracted manufacturing” with the world’s leading brands.

Approach: ShipsGo BCO Package

Evyap logistics team needs the details of every shipment information, such as the name of the port of loading and discharging, date of loading, name, and dates of transit ports, and total transit time. They used to get that information from their freight forwarders by phone and had problems reaching accurate information. After using, the ShipsGo container tracking service, they no longer need to have exhausting calls with forwarders to receive the information. The team now follows the location of their cargo by using an interactive map and dashboard.

Only in 3 months has there been a decrease in the time and human effort required to track a container. In addition to decreasing phone calls and mail traffics, thanks to the ShipsGo notification e-mails, Evyap could avoid unaccepted costs like dispatch, demurrage, and customer losses. ShipsGo delay notification e-mails also affected the carrier decision of Evyap for their next shipments. If a carrier doesn’t discharge your container at the promised date, why should you choose that carrier again should?

ShipsGo shipment statistics also provide benefits to Evyap. After tracking their container, Evyap shipments directly turned out monthly, and annual statistics report the basis of TEU, carriers, export, and import countries. They could see how many containers were on route or arrive on time. Besides, Evyap directly receives the reports of the number of containers carried in the last months and what is the proportion of each carrier in their shipment. Before ShipsGo, they couldn’t keep such kinds of statistics or were trying to keep them manually.

Outcomes: Measurable and Solid Outcomes

Location of their shipment on a live map

Get rid of using freight forwarders for container tracking

Avoid unaccepted costs such as demurrage, dispatch, and customer lose

Assistance for carrier choosing decision

Minimizing time and human effort for tracking a container

Getting shipment statistics reports which they couldn’t have

CNTRACKING Was at the 86th Izmir International Fair

The 86th Izmir International Fair was held on August 18-27. The fair theme, which made the closing on Sunday, August 27th, was Innovation and Energy. While Muğla province was chosen as honor guest, Russia became partner country of the fair. CNTRACKING also was in Participants Hall 2 between August 19-25. We introduced our digital solutions to other companies and participants who are interested in innovation and digital ideas in the maritime and logistics fields. We also talked about the future of the Russian market and negotiated for possible cooperation with Tamansky Ferry Terminal in our B2B meeting.

Companies, municipalities, and make-up workshops were able to introduce themselves on the fair campus where 409 booths spread over open and closed areas. In addition, the enterprises have held B2B business meetings in accordance with their respective fields with the Russian Companies.

We thank you very much for your interest in our stand. In hopes of meeting at new fairs.

More than CNTRACKING – We are ShipsGo Now!

CNTRCKING continues to serve with its new brand and image, namely ShipsGo, by developing its products. ShipsGo’s vision is to make people happy with the information. Since the beginning of our journey in the container transportation business, we have been trying to organize the shipping industry’s information and make it accessible universally. We have developed our well-known two products in the digital container transportation market; container tracking and route finder. These two products were developed for “visibility” in container transport. We provide information on the current position of containers and carriers’ route performances (transit time and reliability).
