In this section, you will learn how to integrate our container tracking module into your company’s system with API Integration. Thus, you can track containers and receive informative e-mails about your shipments without using a different tool.

So how is this integration achieved? Each step is hidden in the ShipsGo API section of your dashboard in ShispGo. In this section, you have an API Key created specifically for you.
Thanks to this API Key, adopted into the system you use is provided. API Integration is done by your IT team, who knows your system. Everything your IT team needs is available in this section. The ShipsGo API document explains step by step how to do it. You can access the API document here.

Since our journey in the container transportation business began.
We have been trying to organize the shipping industry’s information and make it accessible universally. We have developed two well-known products in the digital container transportation market; container tracking and route finder. These two products were developed for “visibility” in container transport. We provide information on the current position of containers and carriers’ route performances (transit time and reliability). We have reached 5,000 daily searches on our website from 70+ countries and plan to reach 30,000 daily searches worldwide.

What is EDI?

EDI (Electronic Data Exchange) is known as a technological infrastructure designed to perform all the information flows in the business workflows safely and quickly. This technology, which came up in the 1990s, is also an essential element of the shipping industry. However, with the advent of digitalization and cloud technology, the disadvantages of this system have become more evident.

EDI is committed to standards in inter-institutional technological integration; ANSI, EDIFACT, and ebXML. There are also three different sub-versions of each of these standards. Although this increases the variety of standards, it creates problems, especially for small and medium-sized companies. While working with large firms, small firms that are trying to meet their standards cannot do this effectively. Electronic Data Exchange is also unable to meet the needs of supply chain visibility, one of the most important and critical concepts of recent times.

What is API?

API (Application Programming Interface) is defined as the interface provided by the application that shares the capabilities of an application so that it can be used in another application. API is a technology that has come up in the last decade. The shipping and logistics sector has just begun to meet. In March 2019, the Journal of Commerce (JOC), one of the leading industry magazines, emphasized the importance of API for the shipping industry.

A more agile technology than EDI, the API quickly and reliably shares data on your system with another system. A technology company that provides container tracking services shares the API code with a foreign trade or freight forwarder company to do the follow-up on an ERP system. The company places this API code in its system in a short time (maybe minutes) and completes the installation. Then, as the company queries, the company can connect to the network of the container tracking platform and update the container status instantly.

ShipsGo supplies API service for its BCO and freight forwarder companies. For Example, SASA uses ShipsGo services both in inbound (import) and outbound (export) logistics activities. After the integration of ShipsGo with SASA’s SAP-ERP system, the company can collect information from ShipsGo system concerning the location of containers and ETA about the related POL/POD port. SASA IT Team developed customized reports and alerts concerning the expectations of logistics/transport departments by the help of the data supported by the ShipsGo.
Container Tracking For Cargo Owners

An exporter (cargo owners) usually operates as a producer or intermediary, which needs efficient management of both inbound and outbound logistics activities in an integrated approach. For example, the exporter engaged in production with import-based inputs should accurately forecast the transit times of inputs supplied from abroad to make production planning accordingly. With the forecasting, delays due to long transit times, especially in maritime transport, have to be known instantly. On the other hand, within the scope of finished product logistics, the cargo owner should also design a system that can deliver the container to the customer at the promised time. For many cargo owners, it is a significant problem for both early and late arrivals of the containers at the customers’ port.

Is the Current Status of Container Important for Cargo Owners?

Shipping Lines’ schedules are not reliable. According to SeaIntelligence, on-time arrivals ranged from 65% to 76% in the first nine months of 2018. On the other hand, almost no container carrier gives any delay/update in the container transport process. Carriers, also don’t have any service informing the customer’s container has been withdrawn from the container port. Exporters have to follow up the “tracking&tracing” pages of the carriers with different designs. As a result, apart from a significant amount of time spent in this business, significant material losses and problems in customer service are experienced.

Solutions

So what do you need to do? The answer is simple;

1) The carrier with the most reliable transit time declaration should be selected,

2) A system that can receive instant information from all delays/updates during container transportation should be used.

Now, Let’s explain how ShipsGo provides these solutions briefly;

1) The carrier with the most reliable transit time declaration should be selected

Knowing the past performances is the best way to decide on the carrier that makes a reliable transit time declaration. It is straightforward to do so. Take, for example, an exporter who imports from Germany and loads his container from the Port of Bremerhaven. This exporter should bring the container to Izmir Aliaga Port with a maximum transit time of 18 days so that production plans are not interrupted. In this sense, this exporter can make a query using the find route finder” search engine of the ShipsGo platform, and the transit times of all carriers are listed on the same page.

The time shown in the list next to the carrier name is the estimated time that the ShipsGo algorithm offers the user. If the “Last Updated” information is clicked, the transit times of the last shipments made by the carrier are listed up to 5 observations. The users can easily understand the carrier’s transit time deviations and reliability.

2) Use a system that will be informed instantly of all delays during container transportation

As an exporter, you can say, “my team is currently tracking containers by looking at carriers’ websites, and I don’t need such a service.” However, the feedback ShipsGo receives from exporter customers is that the time spent on container tracking is reduced by at least 50% in the business after using ShipsGo services.

As ShipsGo, the essential services we provide to exporters within the scope of “full traceability” are as follows;

Customized tracking service

Real-time shipment monitoring

On-time arrival, delay notification, release alert, gate-out confirmation

API integration with all IT systems

Global digital container transportation platform ShipsGo announces the launch of its new interface featuring a simple design that makes it faster and extremely simple to use.

The new ShipsGo design is a “one page only” interface. This “one page” is the “search & visibility” engine of ShipsGo. “Search Route” engine allows users to search for all routes by using the POL (Port of Loading) and POD (Port of Discharge) options. Users have the benefit of comparing transit times of all container carriers. Users can, also, observe the alternative ports in selected routes. Search Engine is a free service. The second engine of ShipsGo interface is the “Track Shipment” that allows the users to track their containers for the sake of visibility. One page interface has a feature of translation for all languages.

The “one page only” interface has a new “feature” titled “Grow with ShipsGo.” Grow with Shipsgo is designed to communicate the benefits of the digital platform in terms of operational efficiency and cost reduction. This tool is a simple page sharing the stories of the current customers and how to use the Professional services of the ShipsGo platform.

About Shipsgo

ShipsGo’s vision is to make people happy with the information. Since the beginning of our journey in the container transportation business, we have been trying to organize the shipping industry’s information and make it accessible universally. We have developed our well-known two products in the digital container transportation market; container tracking and route finder. These two products were developed for “visibility” in container transport. We provide information on the current position of containers and carriers’ route performances (transit time and reliability). We have reached 5,000 daily searches on our website from 70+ countries and plan to reach 30,000 daily searches worldwide.
